OK, so today was the cross-country day! It was great! I have SO many pics that I will put on Photobucket so you can all link to it. This year the horses are great and no one was hurt majorly. So I don't know about the horse dying at Rolex every year. I got to see all the riders because they ran like 3ft by me (I had to work the crossing paths)!! It was great! There were a LOT of people! Many of them crowded around the water jumps. We had a nice spot and I got to talk to a photographer for Horse Illustrated. I can only hope I will be good enough to compete at such a high level. But yeah there is hope! I can't just do dressage. I can ride it, but I need more excitment in my life. I love barrel racing and I think jumping is just as exhilerating! I can see why these people do it! I think if the person rides it right and is careful, the horse will stay alive. All that depends on the people the horse is owned and ridden by. My mom doesn't like me jumping, and it took her so long to get me a real horse, that's why I own model horses, but now, even with the three horses we have, I have the model horse bug! Oh yeah, I was like 2 feet from Cigar! And I got to meet Stephan Bradley!

Ah! Cigar. He's a good looking guy. John Henry looks ancient though, reminds me of what Seabiscuit was described to look like. I went on Spring Break, loved it there. So many horses! But not enough for me. (My mom HAD to ask if I saw enough horsies. She still's hoping it's a phase.)

*cheers* That is so neat! Rolex, Stephen Bradley, Horse Illustrated photographer, Cigar -awesome! (Cigar is an impressive horse -when Breyer first released his model I couldn't wait to get him. ) And exhilerating is the perfect word to describe it all! I haven't yet had the chance to learn to jump, but I've tried almost everything else it seems like and I love speed. ;D Saddleseat is wonderful (I worked at the barn Monday-Friday for a year, part-time during semesters and full-time on break, went to shows as a groom, etc and no, I never once saw evidence of soring on any of the horses I came in contact with) it's thrilling to ride horses that move like that! Western pleasure is fun and alot harder than it looks, huntseat is really good for all-around skills, bareback is great for finding the problems with your riding position and dressage was amazing. I actually liked dressage (my perfectionist tendencies coming out maybe?) and I am convinced it helped me grow alot as a rider. Plus, if you think about it, dressage is just the basics for a riding horse. I can't think of any discipline (except racing maybe?) that doesn't use some kind of dressage. Your horse has to be able to perform the gaits on cue, plus slow, stop or speed up. Dressage as a formal discipline just refines the basics. I would do most anything to get a job at an eventing/jumping barn though. Bring on the jumping lessons! LOL And, incidently, Akhal Tekes are really good at eventing/jumping/dressage, so I wouldn't (theoretically at least) have to switch my favorite breed for one that would do better in the discipline I like. TBs are really great too though and the more I find out about them the more I like them. ;D

Woohoo! Pictures! ;D I'm glad you have fun Emily! I did yard work all day, LOL. I did the jumping thing in High School, many moons ago, and loved it. The Arabian barn I work at now is mainly Western pleasure and reining...now reining is something I've wanted to do for years... And the past couple weeks I've heard my boss and his assistant making comments that "that one would be good for Shannon to ride" and I have'nt ridden in 10 years! lol And your so lucky to get to see Cigar! ;D

Now it's official, I HAVE to volunteer at a local horse trial. It's in August, but I DON'T CARE!!! WHOO! The Rolex bug bit me in the butt, and I don't think it's letting go anytime soon.... Boy am I glad I volunteer.
