EMHRC shows can only be judged by approved judges. This is to prevent people from simply picking the "prettiest horse" and so that the judging will be as fair as possible no matter who the judge is.
To become an EMHRC approved judge you must pass our judging test. There are two different tests, each testing the applicant's knowledge of a certain type of equine competition. In order to become a full judge with the EMHRC, you must pass the Halter test and the Performance test. If you want to be just a Halter judge, or just a Performance judge, you only have to take the appropriate test.
These require knowing things such as: breed standards, current show standards for different breeds, acceptable tack for Western and English disciplines, basic equine anatomy, equine conformation, etc.
If you'd like to take a judging test, please PM me for the password to the "Judges Corner". Any other information you will need is there.
Judges must earn at least an 80% on their test to pass. After passing, they will apprentice judge a show (with an approved judge). They are required to write reasons for their placings in 5 different classes and submit those to the approved judge. If their reasons are well thought out and have no flaws, they will become an approved judge.
Only approved judges are allowed to judge the Breed Inspections, but apprentice and approved judges can judge normal shows. If you'd like to judge a show, just post on the General Board!
